CNC

Welcome to the May 2022 edition of CNC News.

As of last week, we now have a team of 50 and we’re celebrating 25 years! It’s been an incredible journey and seems only a moment ago that we were just four people in a small mezzanine office that was freezing in the winter, boiling hot in the summer. Sometimes, people didn’t know how to switch on the equipment that we had sent them, or how to fix it when it stopped working. So, we started a support line, helping people to get the best out of their IT and the rest, they say, is history. 25 years later to be precise…

Hence the celebration at Goodwood House…

Nobody likes a grass, but it was Graham’s idea creating the Wonka Bar…

So, the chocolate bar arrived on everyone’s desk without warning or explanation. It was great to hear how the Wonka Bar was received. As soon as the word chocolate was mentioned, a smile or a laugh soon followed. One particular person said that they were absolutely desperate for a bar of chocolate; imagine their joy when the next thing they opened was a white jiffy bag with a Wonka Bar inside! Their prayers had been answered - which was quickly scoffed, I might add.

AND ONE WAS EVEN THROWN IN THE BIN WITHOUT
EVEN BEING OPENED.

(Their name has been withheld to protect their identity)

Some ate their chocolate in seconds of the package’s arrival. Others put it away in a drawer to come back to it days later (which we thought showed enormous restraint). Others were kind enough to share it out in the office. That would never happen at CNC – chocolate has the life span of a mayfly in CNC House. Some were super nice and gave it to their children. One was put on eBay! Not one of ours (actually, it was an original Wonka Bar cardboard prop from the 1971 film up for auction for £3000 and it didn’t even have a golden ticket inside).

2021 was CNC’s 25th year of being in business and, as you know, we couldn’t hold an anniversary party that year because of all the social distancing restrictions. However, on the 9th of June, 2022 at 6:00pm we’ll be meeting you all at Goodwood House, and we are really looking forward to celebrating our anniversary with you. We have organised some lovely things for you. So, if you have said yes and you are coming, excellent.

HELP FROM THE PORTAL

IT security is always in the news, what with one company or another having been hacked and not armed with the right solutions. One thing you might consider as a starting point for your digital security is two factor authentication (2FA). It is a simple and easy method for protecting your workforce access security. When you consider that the modern workforce can work locally or globally, a zero-trust approach (never trust, always verify) is a good model to start with, that every entry on to your network is only allowed with precise authentication, with each access attempt.

Cyber attackers aren’t fussy about how they get onto your system. Adding this level of security makes it harder for them to access your IT environment. If you want to set it up, we have included some information (Setting up Duo) in our training resources for you to look at.
