Welcome
to the January 2022 edition of CNC News.
What's New for Your Business in 2022?
2022 is here! The last 24 months have been nothing short of extraordinary.
So, we thought we would start the year with something wonderful.
We are at the moment updating our website. Don’t worry. You
will still have full portal access up in the top right corner of
the site. But, as you’ll see in time, it is getting a massive
revamp and it will include some new and exciting features, which
will make for a smoother, more exciting experience for you.
Making your way around the site will be simpler too. If there’s
an area of outsourced IT that you’d like to explore, it will
be up there in the header bar, or you can just type it into the
search function.
CNC celebrated 25 years in 2021 and the number of solutions and
services that we offer now has expanded. If however, you can’t
see what you are looking for, then please by all means call us and
we’ll sort it out for you.
And of course, you’re probably wondering when it will launch.
Drum roll, please.
1st March 2022
We’ll be out waving the bunting when it launches. Do have
a look around, let us know what you think, we’ll be more than
pleased to take on board any ideas, that help to make an invaluable
resource for you.
And as always, we like to answer your questions that are sent into
us. Do get in touch on 01273 384100 or email us at sales@cnc-ltd.co.uk |
We had hoped that the year would start with some good news, but
already it would appear that cyber-criminals are already underway
in the new year, with a bang. The latest trick in their 2022 armoury
is, ‘Browser Fingerprinting’ – AKA online fingerprinting
or device fingerprinting.
Much like your own personal fingerprints, that are unique to you,
the same applies in the digital world. Essentially, browser fingerprints
are an extensive set of data points that are collected about you.
On first pass, it doesn’t seem that malicious, however, it
can be a serious threat to your online privacy.
Most website functions use ‘Scripts’ – these
are a set of instructions, telling your web browser what to do.
Interestingly, Scripts can reveal quite a bit about you; your online
behaviour, what hobbies you’re into, the type of shopping
you do, your search history, where you are in the world, essentially
all of your digital habits. How accurate is it? Well this might
shock you: you can pretty much be singled out of a crowd with 99%
accuracy!
With the information that can be gleaned from fingerprinting techniques,
this information is often sold to marketers and advertisers, who
are then able to track you, recreating your online identity. So,
if you were to purchase something, for example, concert/ airline
tickets etc., because of your digital fingerprint, you could find
that your ticket prices might be higher than the next person because
’they‘ have delivered targeted content which knows what
you are worth, because of your online behaviour.
Digital fingerprinting is not the same as Cookies. You can delete
cookies, you can’t however delete your browser fingerprint,
and that’s what advertisers like about it. Mobile phones are
particularly susceptible to fingerprint attacks. Yes, there are
things you can do to stop it, anti-tracking software can stop it,
or you can use private browsing methods, Chrome, Edge, Safari and
Firefox all have incognito modes, that you can safely use and ensure
your online world is kept safe and away from advertisers.
If you have any question or concerns regarding browser fingerprinting,
or you would like some support with any of the IT issues highlighted
within the newsletters, then please call us, or speak with your
account manager, and we can have your systems checked for you.
