Microsoft 365 Copilot – A Vision of Things to Come
1st November 2023Categories: Office 365 Tech News
“Office workers are generally unproductive for five hours and 37 minutes each day”
We spend an average of about 37 hours a week at work, of which 68% is spent on ‘doing stuff,’ spending time on various tasks, creating more tasks and attending meetings. Don’t we just love those meetings?
Most of us are constantly surrounded by two or more screens, docking stations, routers, printers, cloud-based tools and servers in the office, or in the cloud. But where is the technology that can truly help me, one that helps me to genuinely create more value, while doing less?
Working 'in' the business, as opposed to 'on' it
The drudgery of office work hasn’t changed much in 50 years. Filing cabinets came and went in various forms, but information is always scattered. Wouldn’t it be great if there was a technology that really knew where everything is?
Instead of me getting bogged down in the same old routine, looking for things, getting lost in files for days, I need something that can help me pull everything together in a minute, rather than a day.
Where’s the technology that can truly assist me in unleashing my creativity, elevating my work beyond the ordinary and making me astonishingly productive? That’s something I’d really like to see.
Microsoft 365 Copilot – unlock your real self
Microsoft 365 Copilot is an artificial intelligence assistant via an online request, that you can use right across all your Microsoft 365 applications – because it is embedded into all of them: emails, calendars, chats, documents, contacts, meetings, everything.
Copilot will go off and find every bit of intellectual and creative capital within your network, and help you to weave it into the work you’re putting together!
Copilot is that missing link of technology that can help you search through all of your Word documents, through Excel, Business chat, all the PowerPoint presentations that you’ve given, Outlook and Teams.
In fact, everything from inside your Microsoft environment and, like magic, it can pull it all together for you, so you don’t have to go looking for it.
If you have a long thread of an email, and you’d like a summary of it, Copilot will do that for you"
Where did I put that file?
For example, imagine you’re collaborating in Teams, creating content and, you want to access meeting notes from three days ago. You’d also like to format it in the style of a previous piece of work you enjoyed.
Additionally, you need to incorporate some Excel content and include your own branding along with some images.
Just ask Copilot to format it for you. It will access your Microsoft files and compile everything onto whatever platform you’re using. All you need to do after Copilot has handled the heavy lifting is review, check, and edit it to your specific requirements.
Would you like a chart with that?
Microsoft 365 Copilot is about making you more efficient. So, you don’t have to go looking for ‘stuff’, or perhaps repeating tasks that you’ve already done. It’s about expanding your skillsets.
Most people, when creating content, might be super skilled at using one or two applications within 365, at most. We worry about finding the right information, breaking templates, formatting things correctly, and presenting it all in a relevant way. Not anymore!
Copilot is about unlocking all of the rich functionality available within Microsoft 365. It’s about advancing your abilities; helping you to get the best out of all the information that you have; breaking it down and delivering real value. In short, presenting you and your business at your best.
You can ask Copilot any question, and if you have the data, it will find and present it to you - all in real-time!"
Getting the best out of you and your business
There’s a lot of commentary regarding how Copilot might entail a substantial additional cost on top of your existing investment in Microsoft products.
I would suggest that if something can assist you in unlocking genuine value within your business, prevent your business from wasting time on unnecessary tasks and enable you to make better use of your time, while also presenting you at your best to your customers, then Microsoft 365 Copilot could be the product for you.
