What is Cyber Essentials?

Cyber Essentials is a Government-backed scheme that will help you to protect your organisation, whatever its size, against a whole range of the most common cyber attacks.

Cybercrime has now topped conventional crime worldwide with all businesses under constant threat. Cybercriminals are always trying to be one step ahead.

The Office for National Statistics reported that almost six million cyber-enabled fraud and cyber-crimes were committed in the last year in England and Wales.

Cyber Essentials features two levels of certification

1. Cyber Essentials

Cyber Essentials is an accepted way of proving that your IT Systems are protected from the most common cyber attacks. If your business is not protected from these common cyber attacks, it can make you a target for more in-depth unwanted attention from cybercriminals and others.

Cyber Essentials also provides a clear statement of the basic controls all organisations should have in place to mitigate the risk from common internet-based threats, within the context of the Government's 10 Steps to Cyber Security.

These include:

  • Network Security
  • User Education and Awareness
  • Access control and user privilege management
  • Patch management
  • Malware protection
  • Removable media controls

Cyber Essentials certification gives you peace of mind that the security you have in place will protect you against the vast majority of common cyber attacks.

2. Cyber Essentials Plus

Cyber Essentials Plus is a more in-depth check into your IT Systems. This requires hands-on technical verification to be carried out.

How Cyber Essentials Helps Your Business?

Cyber Essentials certification means that you have a clear understanding of your organisation's cybersecurity level so that you can:

  • Reassure your customers that your IT systems are protected against cyber attack
  • Attract new business more efficiently, by demonstrating that you have Government approved cybersecurity measures in place
  • Apply for Government contracts, which require Cyber Essentials certification

Since October 2014, all suppliers bidding for Government contracts which involve the handling of personal information, and the provision of some ICT products and services, must be certified under the Cyber Essentials scheme.

We recognise that many businesses do not have the necessary resources to address the business-critical issue of cybersecurity themselves. That is why we offer cybersecurity services, helping companies to improve the overall security of their IT systems and achieve Cyber Essentials certification.

More and more businesses realise the benefits of investing in IT security to protect their IT systems from the many cyber threats which are out there. CNC is helping its customers understand the threats and providing the necessary products and services to combat them.

If you are concerned about your company's security and potential vulnerabilities, CNC can provide a full security audit for your business. Get in touch for a no-obligation chat. You can contact us on 01273 384100 or email us at sales@cnc-ltd.co.uk.

Waterproof Smartphones and Easy Network Switching - How an eSIM can make your life easier.

An eSIM is a replacement for the traditional physical SIM cards which you find in your Smartphone and other mobile data devices.

eSIM's are embedded onto the circuit board and hold all the data needed to connect to a mobile network. No more fiddly SIM cards to deal with! And no more SIM card slots, where water can seep into your phone.

eSIM's have many advantages over traditional SIM cards as they are smaller, providing better security, and greater flexibility. An eSIM enables users to change their network operator remotely, directly from their phone. No need to get hold of a new SIM card first.

Not just for phones! Smart Watches and Laptops can use eSIMs too.

Google and Apple have already integrated eSIM's into their latest devices. And it won't be long before they are in Smart Watches too.

Selected Dell Latitude laptops now have the option for the new type of eSIM to be installed. This allows you to use the mobile data network from wherever a connection is available. Very useful if there is no WiFi or very slow WiFi.

If you would like further information about eSIMs please don't hesitate to contact us on 01273 384100 or email us at sales@cnc-ltd.co.uk.

We hope you've enjoyed reading this newsletter and found the information useful.
