Get ready for the Rollout of Broadband Telephone Services
In the most significant change to telecommunications in 30 years,
PSTN and ISDN services are due to be switched off by December 2025.
By 2023 these services will no longer be available to purchase.
The Big Switch Off
Broadband services which use the Public Switched Telephone Network
(PSTN) will need to be moved to a ‘Single Order’ variant
in the ‘Big Switch Off.’
Any business whose broadband line uses Asymmetric Digital Subscriber
Line (ADSL) or Fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC) services, will need to
upgrade their system. Currently, a single analogue telephone line
supports these services.
The transition for ADSL service will be called Single Order Transitional
Access Product (SOTAP), and for FTTC will be called Single Order
Generic Ethernet Access (SOGEA). Both these services can now be
ordered through CNC.
Businesses also need to move their telephone system to a Voice
over Internet Protocol (VoIP) system, so that they can use broadband
products to make and receive calls. Internet-based solutions are
replacing the traditional On-Premise PBX phone systems.
Now that the fibre infrastructure is widely available, VoIP is
the most reliable and affordable way for small and medium-sized
businesses to operate their telephone system.
And with so many people now working from home, the flexibility
of a VoIP based telephone system has become a necessity!
