Microsoft Teams is fast becoming the office product of choice for all types of business. Teams enables people based in different locations to work effectively together, with shared documents, online meetings and much more. Teams is updated frequently and now features lots of really useful new tools, which are outlined below.

On the network side, BT is withdrawing support for its older telephone services. We explain below why now is the time to upgrade to a voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) solution, if you haven’t already.

If you would like more information about Microsoft Teams or Voice over Internet Protocol solutions, or any of our other products or services, do get in touch on 01273 384100 or email us at sales@cnc-ltd.co.uk.

Microsoft Teams - A Constantly Evolving Platform

Microsoft Teams provides a shared teamworking space where users based in an office or at home can communicate with each other easily and work together effectively.

Microsoft constantly updates the Teams collaborative working platform with new features. These are designed to improve user experience and to enhance its functionality. These are some of the recent additions:

Together Mode

This takes the image of your face and shoulders and puts you and your colleagues alongside each other in a virtual video space. So that you actually feel part of the meeting, rather than an outsider.

Focus Mode

When you are in a conference call and you want to present a PowerPoint slide show you can turn on Focus Mode. This disables all webcams, so there are no distractions for you and your colleagues.

Custom Uploaded Background

Upload your chosen image as your background. This is ideal if you need to convey a corporate image and identity to your customers.

End Meeting

The end meeting option makes sure all participants leave the meeting at the same time. Attendees cannot continue chatting among themselves.

Future Developments

Call Merge

If you use Teams as your phone system, Microsoft is rolling out an option to merge an active 1:1 call into another 1:1 call, or into another group call.

Live Transcriptions and Translate

Later in the year, Teams will provide live transcriptions, plus a translate feature for meetings in other languages.

See up to 49 participants

There will soon be a Large Gallery view which will allow you to show up to 49 participants.

If you need help setting up Microsoft Teams, or if you are considering using Teams to replace your existing phone system, please get in touch with us on 01273 384100 or email us at sales@cnc-ltd.co.uk, and we will take you through all the available options.

Goodbye to Traditional Copper Telephone Lines

Get ready for the Rollout of Broadband Telephone Services

In the most significant change to telecommunications in 30 years, PSTN and ISDN services are due to be switched off by December 2025. By 2023 these services will no longer be available to purchase.

The Big Switch Off

Broadband services which use the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) will need to be moved to a ‘Single Order’ variant in the ‘Big Switch Off.’

Any business whose broadband line uses Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) or Fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC) services, will need to upgrade their system. Currently, a single analogue telephone line supports these services.

The transition for ADSL service will be called Single Order Transitional Access Product (SOTAP), and for FTTC will be called Single Order Generic Ethernet Access (SOGEA). Both these services can now be ordered through CNC.

Businesses also need to move their telephone system to a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) system, so that they can use broadband products to make and receive calls. Internet-based solutions are replacing the traditional On-Premise PBX phone systems.

Now that the fibre infrastructure is widely available, VoIP is the most reliable and affordable way for small and medium-sized businesses to operate their telephone system.

And with so many people now working from home, the flexibility of a VoIP based telephone system has become a necessity!

We have several options available, so please get in touch so that we can demonstrate all the options and help you choose the best one for your business.
